Full Day Kinder - A slow start
This year Coventry Public Schools is implementing a full day kindergarten program. We are very excited to welcome our youngest learners to school all day. Kinder students will start school on Thursday, September 1st. However, on either Monday (8/29), Tuesday (8/30) or Wednesday (8/31), each kinder student and a parent will come to the school for a before kindergarten starts appointment. These appointments have already been given out. If you have not made an appointment for you kinder student, please call us at Western. If you were unable to make it to our orientation, please click the orientation button and view the presentation. Email or call Mrs. A. if you have further questions.
School Supply Lists
Every year, Dr. Gordon, an orthodontist in Coventry, runs a town reading challenge. The school that reads the most books over the summer wins $1,000.
CONGRATULATIONS WESTERN!! WE WON!!!
Thank you to Dr. Gordon for running this annual summer contest and your generosity! Thank you to all the students that participated.
Speaking of Reading
Did you know that if your child reads at home or is read to just 15 minutes a day, it has benefits that will last a lifetime? The summer letter you received from me speaks to the single greatest activity you can do this summer to help your child not "slide" backwards is to read. Research shows that children that are read to or that read independently are exposed to many more words and ideas that will translate into increased achievement.
